We’ll explain what the procedure involves, why it’s recommended, and what you can expect before and after surgery.
Surgery With a Plan
No two surgical cases are exactly alike. Before moving forward, our veterinary team evaluates your pet’s health, discusses the reason for surgery, and talks through the recommended approach with you.
Depending on the procedure and your pet’s individual needs, pre-surgical testing may also be recommended. Our diagnostics and imaging capabilities can help us gather important information before surgery, particularly for orthopedic cases or procedures involving an internal mass or other medical concern.
Throughout the process, our priority is to provide attentive care while keeping you informed. You should understand what we’re doing and why, without having to sort through unnecessary jargon.
Surgical Procedures We Offer
Ocean Animal Hospital provides a range of surgical services for dogs and cats, including:

Spay and neuter surgery is a routine procedure, but timing should still be considered individually. We can help determine when the procedure makes sense based on your pet’s age, health, and other factors.
For pets with a torn cranial cruciate ligament, surgery may be recommended to address instability in the knee joint and improve function. We also perform femoral head and neck ostectomy, or FHO, an orthopedic procedure involving the hip joint.
Surgery to remove a mass or tumor can have different goals depending on your pet’s diagnosis. In some cases, the goal is to remove the growth entirely. In others, removal may help improve your pet’s comfort, mobility, or function. We’ll discuss the specific goals of your pet’s procedure and what the findings may mean for their ongoing care.
Support Before and After Surgery
Surgical care doesn’t end when the procedure does. We’ll provide instructions for recovery at home, including activity restrictions, incision care, medications, and signs that warrant a call.
For some patients, laser therapy may also be incorporated into a broader recovery or pain-management plan when appropriate.
