Fleas are still with us, pesky little creatures. With all the advances in flea control, it only works if used monthly, every month.
This year seems to have been a particularly bad flea season. We have been surprised at the seemingly sudden increase in the number of dogs and cats with fleas. Fleas cause a lot of problems including itchy skin, hot spots, flea allergy dermatitis, and tape worms. Severe flea infestations could result in near fatal or fatal anemia.
The life cycle of the flea is complicated and involves many larval forms including very resistant pupae that can survive many hostile conditions. Fleas reproduce at an alarming rate and infestations can occur within a month or two, especially if you have multiple pets.
Condo living does not make you immune to fleas either. We have many condo dwellers whose pets have turned up with fleas.
Is there a solution? Yes. There are many new effective products on the market that will control fleas. Contact us for more information. The most important thing is to be vigilant and use the flea control medications every month. This is Florida and flea season is year round.
